Amelia's Half-Marathon for Alzheimer's Society
Amelia Colin-Stokes
My Story
On the 10th May I am taking part in the AJ Bell Great Bristol Run, a half-marathon across the city and along the part of the river Avon.
Whilst taking part in this, I am raising money for Alzheimer’s society, a charity very close to mine and my family’s hearts. My Grandma, Norma, seen in the above picture was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s nearly 13 years ago. I was 6 when Grandma was diagnosed, so I am lucky enough to still have some cherished memories of Grandma as she once was; but some of the younger members of our family sadly only have memories of Grandma with Alzheimer’s.
My Grandma may not be the same lady she once was, and she may not be the same Grandma she may have wanted to be, but this has only made us love her even more. We’ve been privileged to love every version of Grandma and, in her own ways, she has always shown us how much we mean to her. I’ve been training consistently since the middle of December for this, my first half-marathon, and have thought of Grandma every step of the way.
I would be so grateful for anything you could donate. Whilst it’s too late to change anything now for Grandma, I hope that things will be better for those with Alzheimer’s in the future.
I hope I do you proud Grandma x
