My Story

Last year in my 36th week of pregnancy, I suddenly developed severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome, a rare and very dangerous complication. These can be fatal for the mother, and if developed early on for baby as well. I was immediately hospitalised and had to have an emergency caesarean, exactly 3 weeks before my due date. You can read more about my experience here (https://action-on-pre-eclampsia.org.uk/liz-story/)

Pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome are poorly understood, and more research and education is needed to help health care providers recognise it before it's too late. It's particularly dangerous when developed early in pregnancy while the baby is still developing. This is why I'm running for Action on Pre-eclampsia, to keep stories like mine from happening. I was lucky because it ended well for both of us, but not everyone is.
